'The Crown' Will Not Tackle This Controversial Royal Storyline.

There is one controversial royal storyline that will not be featured in The Crown‘s newest seasons.

Camillagate, also known as Tampongate, will not be featured. If you don’t know, Camillagate was a recorded conversation between Prince Charles and his current wife, Duchess Camilla, while they were both still married to other people. Prince Charles was married at the time to Prince Harry and Prince William‘s mom Princess Diana.

The Crown‘s Prince Charles, Josh O’Connor said during an interview, “When they offered me the role, one of my first questions was — I say questions, I think it was pretty much a statement — ‘We are not doing the tampon phone call.’”

The recorded conversation makes it clear they are having an affair, and you can see a transcript of it right here.

Can you imagine that conversation being played out on screen? I recall reading it back then and thinking, there are some things we really don't need to hear, but I continued anyway. lol I am looking forward to the next season because the whole Diana/Charles/Camilla triangle was the first bit of royal tea I can remember hearing about, it was so, so big. And Diana going on TV and talking about the BRF and Charles was huge because I don't think anyone had ever done that publicly, as far as I know. "There were three of us in the marriage so it was a bit crowded." Wow.

I think it's hilarious that the actual context of the Tampax comment was that he said he wanted to live in her pants and she lightly made fun of him by replying, "Oh, like a pair of knickers?" and he escalated the joke by saying "Or God forbid, a Tampax!"

Now everyone thinks he WANTED to be her tampon. Gives me a chuckle every time.

Who recorded it- Charles? For mass distribution to combat gay rumours?

Any guy who didn't think Diana was a hot babe is queer.

Damn it! It's only because the pitbull and her squeeze are still alive.

Diana was not a hot babe, only gay guys think that lol

I think the call was recorded by people who had scanners that could intercept wireless phone calls. It was quite a hobby back then, I think it's also how the Princess Diana "Squidgy" call was recorded.

Damn, I had my costume already picked up.

Thanks, R6. I was wondering that too.

She was very attractive. A lot of people who met her have said she was better looking in person.

That smattering of blood on the pull tie rope thingy is perf, R7.

R6 - IIRC, the story I heard was that both calls were professionally recorded via wire tapping then retransmitted so some "radio ham" with a wireless scanner would pick up the call and sell it to a tabloid to make a few "bob". However, I may be totally wrong.

The Crown didn't even cover Princess Ann's kidnapping. It's like the writers are asleep at the wheel. That is a great PR story that could liven up a rather weak season. I'm not even excited for another season since the quality of their work has gone down the tubes. If they don't fi the jewelry blunder from S3 I will stop watching. Every crown and tiara was 3 sizes too small in Season 3, yet was more accurate in S1 & S2.

Where does an up-an-coming actor get off telling the producers of a high-profile, prestige project what they will or won't write about?

r12 that's called big dick energy. Cute Josh has that in spades.

Camilla will be a good queen. She’s come pretty far and conducts herself like a proper royal duchess, unlike ANOTHER one that I could MMention

R12

I'm with you. Cute as he may be - important to the story he may be - good actor as he may be - there's no way in hell HE dictated what would and would not be covered in the series. He may be misremembering it, or it has been taken out of context - and in reality it was a question - "We are not doing the tampon phone call, are we?”

Or he just has a very inflated view of himself, which, as an actor, would not be unusual.

I still remember the SNL sketch about this with Dana Carvey as Charles.

But...it's the best part! It's romantic!

R19, once I let Josh’s uncut cock out my jaws of life mouth. Then he can get back to shooting S4. Apologies everyone, I couldn’t help myself.
