Texas man who fatally shot his neighbor speaks out

A Houston man claims he shot dead his 53-year-old neighbor in self defense as she came at him armed with a roll of tape and a Schnauzer.

Hector Campos, 43, is accused of killing grandmother Ana Weed after shooting her in the heart in their quiet suburban neighborhood in Spring, Texas.

Breaking his silence for the first time, he told Dr Phil in an exclusive interview that airs in full Wednesday: 'She was coming at me.'

When the TV host asked him what he would do if he could go back to the January 24 shooting, Campos said: 'I don't know if I'd do anything differently.'

He said there were two dogs with her and: 'I could not tell what he intentions were. I just knew she was attacking me.'

But those who know Campos say it was an act of revenge.

Neighbors say he resented Weed for helping his wife file for divorce and flee to Mexico last year.

Weed apparently helped buy Campos's wife a ticket since he kept cancelling the reservation. His wife accused him of being abusive.

Weed's family also thinks the murder was planned because Campos despised her barking Schnauzer who ran into his yard the day he shot her.

Scott Weed, Ana's husband, told KHOU: 'My wife was squatted down holding the dog. Hector point blank shot her in the chest with intent to kill.'

In court, Campos said Weed shoved him and felt threatened by the roll of tape in her hand.

The aftermath of the fatal shooting was filmed by a neighbor, showing Weed's husband kneeling over his wife's body, as a neighbor was next to him with a gun pointed at Campos.

The video, which was recorded by a neighbor from across the street, then showed other people in the street desperately flagging down a police car that was speeding to the scene.

An officer was then seen walking towards Campos, who was laying flat on the ground with the gun on the floor by his side.

The 43-year-old was arrested at the time and held overnight on a $50,000 bond, however he was released the next morning, KTRK reports.

Scott Weed said: 'I believe it was planned. It just isn’t right. To see him get out on bail, free to roam the streets, is beyond me. I cannot believe this guys is walking.'

Campos's will go to court in the next two months.
